Gary Bartz NTU Troop - Singerella
Highlighting another amazing soul jazz gem from Gary Bartz and his NTU Troop, here is the funky jazz track "St. Felix Street" from the 1974 album Singerella: A Ghetto Fairy Tale. This record represents one of the final albums Bartz recorded for Prestige and one of the first collaborative efforts the saxophonist did with soul jazz mastermind Larry Mizell, who mixed the recording. The album features a number of great moments that blend electric funk grooves with Bartz righteous jazz sound. The album helps foreshadow the sound that Bartz would continue to explore on records like The Shadow Do!, Music Is My Sanctuary, and Bartz. A truly under-appreciated gem!
