Stanley Turrentine - Return of the Prodigal Son
Let's end the week with one of my favorite versions of "Return of the Prodigal Son" by saxophonist Stanley Turrentine. Recorded back in 1967, this soulful jazz gem didn't see the light of day until over a decade later in 1979 when it was released on the album New Time Shuffle. This record, which was released by the Liberty owned Blue Note label, features previously unreleased material from two different sessions recorded by Turrentine in 1967. Even though there are a couple of other good versions of this Harold Ousley written classic, Stanley Turrentine's soul-jazz rendition is easily my favorite. Enjoy!
