Blue Mitchell - Heads Down

This Friday will be the first SAY IT LOUD! Happy Hour (7PM-10PM) at Disco Volante (347 14th Street Oakland, CA), therefore this week, I thought I would feature some examples of the kind of music I plan on spinning.

Here is the funky jazz gem "Heads Down" off of Blue Mitchell's 1969 release Bantu Village. This record represents one of the last records the trumpet player released on Blue Note (with the last being Collision in Black, released a few years later in 1973). Mitchell went on to fully embrace a soul-jazz sound with many classic releases on Mainstream Records during the early to mid-seventies.
