Yusef Lateef - Live At Pep's

On June 29, 1964, legendary jazz multi-instrumentalist Yusef Lateef recorded a live set at Philadelphia's Pep's Musical Lounge. This recorded material resulted in two incredible releases by Impulse! records. The first batch of recorded material from that evening was released later that year on an album appropriately titled Live At Pep's. Even though the release received high praise, the remaining live material from that evening's set wasn't released until 1999 when Impulse! decided to put out the unreleased recordings with a second volume. The record simply titled Live At Pep's Volume Two helps complete one of Lateef's greatest recording dates with hard bop jazz gems like "Brother John", "P-Bouk", "Yusef's Mood", "Listen To The Wind" and others. On this recording, Yusef plays multiple instruments including tenor saxophone, bamboo flute, oboe and shenai. Overall, a brilliant two volume release that captures Yusef Lateef performing live at his absolute best.
