SFJAZZ Hotplate - TONIGHT!

Tonight is February's installment of the monthly jazz tribute series SFJAZZ Hotplate, which takes place at the Amnesia Bar (853 Valencia St., San Francisco). Bay Area's own Larry De La Cruz, along with an impressive group of local jazz musicians, will reinterpret the music of alto sax legend Cannonball Adderley. Expect to hear impressive and explosive takes on some of Cannonball's most notable tracks like "Autumn Leaves", "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy", "Work Song", "African Waltz", "Corcovado" ,"The Black Messiah", "Brother John", as well as some his collaborative material that he did with Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Yusef Lateef, Nat Adderley, Joe Zawinul and countless others. I will be opening the event at 8pm with an hour long deejay set, playing a lot of Cannonball gems as well as a bunch of bebop and some funky early seventies era jazz. Overall, I expect this to be one of the best Hotplate shows to date. If you want to witness some really great local jazz music, this is an event not to be missed.
