Gene Ammons - Jungle Strut

Lately, I've been finding myself really enjoying some of the more funkier recordings from the late saxophonist Gene Ammons. Records like Bad! Bossa Nova (1962) and Brother Jug! (1970) have for weeks consistently been in heavy-rotation on my turntable. One song that I truly can't get enough of is the funky jazz gem "Jungle Strut". This track, which was featured on the Brother Jug! album has an overall smooth soulful groove that sounds like it's straight out of a seventies Blaxploitation film. The recording date features a solid lineup including Buster Williams (bass), Bernard Purdie (drums), Sonny Phillips (Organ), Candido (congas), and others. A classic track from a saxophonist that, at times, knew how to bring the heat.
