Dizzy Gillespie - Jambo Caribe

Throughout his life, legendary trumpeter and composer Dizzy Gillespie released many albums that blended his signature be-bop sound with African and Latin sounds from around the world. One of those records was Jambo Caribe, which was released back in 1964 and featured Dizzy tapping into the Calypso rhythms and sounds of the Caribbean. This recording, which is backed by some funky and tropical percussion grooves, also features Dizzy contributing lead vocals to many of the tracks including my personal favorite "Jambo". The album also notably features some other jazz heavy-weights including James Moody on Tenor Saxophone and flute, while Kenny Barron plays both piano and bass (on select tracks) on the record. Overall, Jambo Caribe is easily one of Dizzy's greatest recordings; A landmark album that once again documents the legendary trumpeter's influential exploration into Afro-Cuban and Latin music.
