Kenny Dorham - Afro-Cuban

I thought I would end the week with the funky jazz classic "Afrodisia" from Kenny Dorham's 1955 album Afro-Cuban. The album, which features Dorham on trumpet backed by an all-star group of jazz heavy-weights including Art Blakey (drums), Horace Silver (piano), Oscar Pettiford (bass), Hank Mobley (baritone saxophone), Cecil Payne (tenor saxophone), JJ Johnson (trombone)and Carlos "Potato" Valdes throwing it down nicely on the congas. As the title of this Blue Note Records release suggests, this record has a strong Afro-Cuban influence throughout all the compositions that results in many classic gems like "Minor's Holiday", "Basheer's Dream", and others. Overall, when it comes to Afro-Cuban jazz, this brilliant recording by Kenny Dorham is an absolute masterpiece and one that I highly reccommend. Enjoy!
