Eddie Palmieri - Exploration

Just a quick reminder that TONIGHT is SFJAZZ Hotplate at Amnesia (853 Valencia Street) featuring accomplished Bay Area pianist Rebeca Mauleón paying tribute to Latin jazz legend Eddie Palmieri. I will kick things off at 8PM with an hour long deejay set featuring some of my favorite Latin jazz, Boogaloo, and Cumbia tracks followed by two live set's from Mauleón and her band starting around 9PM. Should be one of the best Hotplate events to date, so get their early and stay late!

To continue my weekly tribute to the "Sun of Latin Music" Eddie Palmieri I thought I would feature the track "Condiciones Que Existen" from one of the pianists' most interesting and experimental albums in Explorations. Unlike many of Palmieri's earlier records, this 1978 released recording is mostly instrumental featuring Palmieri and his band stretching out a bit with a concentrated focus on exploring each compositions' overall foundation. Some of the other standout tracks include "Cobarde", "Chocolate Ice Cream", and "The Mod Scene". Definitely an interesting, yet under the radar record, worth checking out!
