On this week's radio show, I played the title track off of Woody Shaw 's superb 1975 album The Moontrane. Today I thought I would post another personal favorite from this classic "post-Coltrane" jazz record in the Afro-centric track "Sanyas". This date features an impressive cast of musicians which include Buster Williams and Cecil McBee on bass, Azar Lawrence on saxophone (tenor & soprano), Onaje Allen Gumbs on piano, Victor Lewis on drums, along with a number of additional percussion players. A sure gem than finds Shaw and company truly hitting their stride!
