Eddie Gale - Ghetto Summertime

On this week's radio show, I featured one of the many classic tracks from Eddie Gale's spiritual jazz masterpiece Black Rhythm Happening in "It Must Be You". Today, I thought I would feature another cut from the 1969 album in "Ghetto Summertime". This track complements the rest of the selections on the record with it's powerful, yet moody melodies and overall soulful spiritual groove. The record features Gale as well as Elvin Jones on drums, Henry Pearson and Judah Samuel on bass, Roland Alexander and Russell Lyle on flute, Jamie Lyons(alto) and Russell Lyle(tenor) on saxophone, as well a wide cast of vocalists. In all, a breathtaking concept record that really captures the feelings and struggles that were so prominent in the U.S. during the sixties.
