Over the last couple of years, the Puerto Rican label Trans Air has released a number of impressive compilations that have focused on funky tropical steel drum flavored gems from within the Caribbean region. On the recently released third version of the West Indies Funk series, the label has once again done an amazing job in compiling a great batch of rare steel drum tracks that will make even the most hesitant listener of steel drum music craving for more. This newest double-vinyl release features funky and soulful tropical cuts from group's like Original Tropicana Steel Band, Trinidad & Tobago Steel All Stars, Amral's Trinidad Cavaliers, Trinidad Steel Drummers, and many others. Even though all the volumes in this series have been solid, this third installment might easily be the best of the three. Unfortunately this will be the final volume of this particular series, however the people at Trans Air have reassured us that their is more exciting Caribbean focused music releases on the way. Until then, I highly recommend checking out one of this year's best compilations in West Indies Funk vol.03.
